National Park Centennial

This year, the National Park Service is celebrating its centennial and officially turns 100 years old on August 25, 2016. To celebrate a century of stewardship, many national parks and their partners across the U.S. will be hosting celebrations, offering specialty tours and integrating centennial themes into their interpretive programs. In addition to centennial-themed interpretive programs, Glacier National Park is also hosting an InstaMeet on August 25.

In Montana's Glacier National Park, many of the concessioners—including Glacier Guides, Swan Mountain Outfitters and Glacier National Park Lodges—are offering specialty tours in 2016 for the centennial.

Glacier National Park Lodges is offering a "NPS Centennial Crown of the Continent" red bus tour that includes the cedar forests of the Lake McDonald Valley and the impressive Going-to-the-Sun Road. Swan Mountain Outfitters has a "Glacier Triple Crown" tour that has been specifically designed to introduce visitors to three distinct areas of Glacier National Park on horseback trail rides in Apgar, Lake McDonald and Many Glacier. This three-part tour (available for bookings on different days and for various lengths of time), will give visitors a comprehensive and well-rounded view of the Crown of the Continent, as well as provide ample opportunities for wildlife viewing. In addition, Glacier Guides is offering a "Best of Glacier" tour that includes hiking, a red bus tour and a horseback trail ride, as well as a scenic boat tour on one of the lakes in Glacier Park. Tour Glacier National Park by bicycle on the “Glacier Ride”. Held July 5 - 10, 2016, this six-day adventure trip through both Glacier and Waterton Lakes national parks will include biking, hiking and rafting as it raises funding for the Glacier National Park Conservancy.

Adventure Cycling is encouraging people to #FindYourPark by participating in “Bike Your Park Day” on September 24. Held on National Public Lands Day, bikers will be biking to national and state parks, as well as public lands across the country.

Outside of the park, you'll find businesses like Glacier Distilling Company serving up specialty cocktails in honor of the National Park Service Centennial, while there are also opportunities to enter to win America the Beautiful National Parks Passes.
