TRAVEL INFORMATION Know Before You Go

Horseback Riding

Early visitors to Glacier National Park often explored the park and traveled between the chalets and lodges on horseback. Today, travelers can still see the park from the back of a horse on a guided trail ride with Swan Mountain Outfitters. Trail rides are available during the summer (typically mid-May through late September) at corrals in Many Glacier, Lake McDonald and Apgar.

From their corral at Apgar, Swan Mountain Outfitters offers a one-hour ride, two-hour ride and half-day ride, with each providing beautiful and diverse views of the Apgar area and Lake McDonald Valley. A short drive up from Apgar is the Lake McDonald corral, which offers a one-hour ride, two-hour scenic ride and full-day horseback adventures. In Many Glacier, located in the northeast corner of Glacier National Park, Swan Mountain Outfitters has the most diverse mix of rides that vary from one-hour rides to full-day excursions.
